ABL overseeing Bouri gas project installations offshore Libya

Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been awarded a contract to provide marine warranty survey services to Saipem, to support the marine transportation and installation operations relating to Libya's Bouri Gas Utilisation Project.

ABL will provide marine warranty survey services to support Saipem's marine transportation and installation operations for the Bouri Gas Utilisation Project offshore Libya.

Operator Mellitah Oil & Gas, a joint venture between Eni and Libya's National Oil Corp., plans an upgrade of platforms and facilities at Bouri, which is 120 km northwest of Tripoli in 145-183 m water depth. 

Plans include substantial reductions of the complex's CO2 emissions.

Under an (EPCIC) contract, Saipem will supply and install a 5,000-mt gas recovery model on the DP4 offshore platform and lay 28 km of subsea pipelines connecting the DP3, DP4 and Sabratha platforms.

ABL will perform technical reviews and approvals of project documentation, drawings and calculations related to warranted marine operations.

Its work scope includes suitability surveys and other marine assurance activities for the proposed vessel fleet; DP trials, where required; and onsite attendance to review and approve warranted marine operations.

The semisubmersible crane vessel Saipem 7000 will manage heavy-lift operations. (The vessel was also booked in December 2024 to deliver the topside structures mainly as modules to Aker Solution’s specialized decommissioning yard in western Norway during 2025-2027.)

ABL will manage the program from its London base, supported by its marine surveyors in Europe and North Africa.
