The Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that the fifth round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-5), exclusively focused on offshore wind projects, will launch in the third quarter of 2025.
The auction, aiming to secure market access for offshore wind developers, is a step towards the Philippines’ goal of achieving offshore wind power generation by 2028.
The DOE said last week it will release the Notice of Auction (NOA) and Terms of Reference (TOR) soon, setting out the timeline, procedures and guidelines for participation in GEA-5. It is currently evaluating stakeholder insights.
The auction is expected to catalyse the development of offshore wind projects and to generate significant economic benefits, including local job creation and industrial growth within the renewable energy sector, the department added.
Companies working on offshore wind projects in the Philippines include Copenhagen Energy and Corio.
