Congratulations on Timeast First Directional Drilling Crossing Erjiegou Channel-- Yuedong Oilfield Submarine Cable Replacement & Repair Project Completion

With the spread of COVID-19, Timeast overcame various difficulties such as changeable weather and muddy sea water. After several investigations and discussions, combined with Yuedong Oilfield construction site conditions, Timeast coordinated and handled various factors such as maritime affairs, fishery administration and surrounding obstacles in accordance with the law, refined the construction plan and risk identification. Dec. 16th, 2022, Yuedong oilfield submarine cable replacement & repair project was successfully completed!

Project main work is emergent replacement and repair of faulty cable at the fishing port channel of Erjiegou, Liaodong Bay New District, Panjin City, Liaoning Province, to ensure oilfield dual power supply.

Project highlight is to adopt the scheme of replacing faulty cables by directional drilling crossing the channel for the first time. The successful implementation of this scheme not only ensured construction safety and quality, but also solved the problem of cable breakage and power failure caused often by fishing boats or other external forces once and for ever.

The key of directional drilling crossing is the real-time positioning of pilot hole, which can accurately locate drill pipe position, so as to flexibly control drill pipe direction and depth.

Timeast adopted directional drilling crossing laying method for the first time to lay the new submarine cable--35KV composite submarine cable 3X240+12C, 500m long.

◇ Submarine crossing cable sleeve specification: DN280*31.3 PE100, PE pipe;

◇ Directional drilling crossing exit and entry points horizontal length is 420.00m，directional drilling crossing horizontal length is 420.00m;

◇ The entry point is located in the east of the lateral dam (according to the site environment and directional drilling situation, it is necessary to build a temporary drilling rig platform with steel sheet piles & block stones, and anchor the directional drilling rig); The exit point is tidal flat; 

◇ The entry and exit angles of crossing pipe section are determined according to the crossing terrain, geological conditions and crossing pipe diameter size. The pipeline directional drilling entry angle is 10 °, the exit angle is 9 °, the crossing pipe section curvature radius is 1500D (D is pipeline outside diameter). Directional drilling depth at the channel is 15m below the water surface and 10m below the seabed.

The successful implementation of replacement and repair scheme provides a good solution for effectively cable buried depth of cable crossing the channel, shoal laying and cable landing.

Dec. 16th, Yuedong Oilfield Submarine Cable Replacement & Repair Project was all successfully completed:

◆ Mobilize the vessel to transport 780m 35KV composite submarine cable to construction site; 

◆ Fault point Searching and locating, remove the sludge in fault section;

◆ Cable cutting, cut off fault point and damage affected area, conduct insulation resistance test on both ends;

◆ Placing back the connected new cable to seabed, trenching settlement and burying with a depth of 2m;

◆ Backfilling to sea level with sandbags after settlement completion;

◆ Carry out acceptance test after repair and protection is completed;

◆ Old cable shall be recovered and delivered to the place designated by client.
